WMP11 Vista Problem

Media player errorI have Windows Vista and having a very big problem with my windows media 11 .I try to open up the media player but it always says it needs to be reinstalled, but when i try to reinstall it, it alway says the most recent version is installed and then it closes, How do i fix this problem? Its driving me nuts.
Getting Rid of Windows media player 11 on vistaHow can I get uninstall windows media player 11 on my new computer which is windows vista campatible.I think we should have a right to decide which media player we want on our computer that we are paying for. I think the company should remember this. I know alot of ppeople that are sick of vista and windows media player 11 being installed and switching over to MACS.
Mdeia player 11 in Vista bugSometimes on clicking on a file on the desktop, wmp 11 in Vista plays the file but does not open itself to the desktop. I can hear the sound track and have to pen wmp manualy. Sometimes a restart cures this problem, but it keeps happening too often.
My friend asked me to look at her Acer Aspire laptop with Vista Home Premium as it is no longer playing DVDs. I found that Windows Media Player would not launch. I found this thread, which contained a number of suggestions, none of which solved the problem. Here is what I tried:
Microsoft Windows Media Runtime in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server contained a bug that permitted "remote code execution if a user opened a specially crafted media file". Such a file would allow the attacker to "then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights", if the account on which the file was played had administrator privileges.[31] The problem was addressed in a critical update issued on September 8, 2009.[32]
I purchased the CE edition of nightfall ages ago and just recently added the key to upload the new funky music from directsong. However upon doing so, i got a wee yellow warning symbol telling me to contact their support. Now after going through their knowledge base and trying EVERYTHING they had listed there, the problem was still happening. Thus i contacted their support group, however it's now coming up on a week and still no one has got back in touch with me. Gaile have you got any idea what i can do to resolve this issue as i think directsong's support department has up and left the building leaving me with a set of music that i cant get to work for the life of me. -- Salome 18:57, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I have the very same problem. I tried to enter the code on September 1st, and then they said an error occured with an URL and I should contact the support. Well, its been over THREE MONTHS now and my tickets have not been responded to. The only eMail address I can find on the site returns my mails. If there IS any support, it sure as hell doesnt do its job.92.228.194.80 09:40, 6 October 2009 (UTC) Ralph
Entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DirectSong didn't have the MusicPath String (was empty except the Standard String), thought it would be a good idea to place it there, so I pasted it in. After it, I got the DirectSong icon ingame, but there was a yellow warning triangle over it and it said DirectSong encountered an error, please visit directsong.com/support for help with this issue. Unfortunately their support page contains only 2 hints at all.I additinally pasted a new key at the spot you described above + the MusicPath String, but still the same, even after Windows restart. Now, after spending hours with this problem, I wouldn't bet that it is ever going to work again. --85.181.208.119 01:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Directsong now lets you redownload all the GW music WMAs that let you play them in game from . A problem i was having which i figured out was when i was running the registerdirectsongdirectory file Guild wars still didnt recognise the folder id put them in. If you have Vista and have UAC on, make sure you run the file as administrator then it will work. 82.30.69.79 20:21, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
I have the very same problem mentioned some paragraphs above about the Nightfall Collecters Edition bonus stuff. I tried to enter the code on September 1st, and then they said an error occured with an URL and I should contact the support. Well, its been over a MONTH now and my tickets have not been responded to. The only eMail address I can find on the site returns my mails. If there IS any support, it sure as hell doesnt do its job. 92.228.194.80 09:39, 6 October 2009 (UTC) Ralph
I've just reinstalled my PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits (previously was on Vista 32-bits) and while I had no problem whatsoever for re-activating the licenses of all the paks I've bought from DirectSong, the music does not play ingame anymore. In fact, there is no more DirectSong icon in my Sound menu anymore, something I find quite odd since it's been there for 4 years. I've imported my XP turned Vista GW install in 7 as usual with gw.exe -repair and I've verified that I restored the DirectSong MusicPath key in the registry and that it points to the proper location. I suspect the DLL is not loading for some reason. I'll create a ticket at DirectSong first and then later at NCsoft/GW support if needed. If I got no answer or result within 2 weeks I'll try to ask Gaile directly. Jaxom 10:16, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I got language pack but it only converts menus and option to Korean. If anyone know, please tell me what to do thru my email or comment here - September 6, 2007 by Shawn Lee
CONGRATULATION - The skin is looking very good. But when i am listening shoutcase radio, the skin has failure. It is not working on radio. Is there a solution for this problem? - August 24, 2007 by A NIZAMOGLU
awsome - the skin is great but one little thing, is there a way to have it on the screen under windows but yet have the mouse cursor go over on top of it? I have to have my winamp on Always on top but I dont like it that way. Is there a way to fix that tiny problem. only way I have to have it is, minimized it to my toolbar on the right hand corner. I hope this isn't too much of a problem to fix though. But other than that, I love the skin. - April 21, 2007 by Kyrie Levant
Very good..but - The skin is very nice to look at. good eye candy. Only problem I find is resizing and attaching windows. Resizing is incredibley hard to do because the borders of the windows are really far apart from eachother. - March 31, 2007 by Matt Davis
Awesome, but I want a windowshade mode - This is an awesome skin that matches greatly with Vista...however, it is very annoying to have a big clunky box open just for music when browsing the web...If this skin had a windowshade mode (the mode that is skinny and long), I could fit it at the top of my screen and browse the web with no problems. Please make a windowshade mode for it! - March 2, 2007 by Nick Morris
An scrolling issue - Wow, thank you for this beautiful skin! I have one issue though... the scrollbar in the medialibrary is tweakin' out. When i open winamp media library, the scroll bars are missing. When i point and click on where the scroll bar should be, i move an invisible bar, allowing me to view info farther down the list. The problem occurs for all the scroll bars and scroll bar viewing area. When i click on the scroll bar veiwing area, the scroll bar appears and moves to whereever my pointer is, but dissapears after i try to click and drag it. Furthermore, there are no arrows for the scroll bar, only gray and glue boxes.Hope this helps, with this fixed i would give this skin 6 stars. - February 10, 2007 by Brandon Pazzi
Sweet Skin - Skin looks awesome, notifier is great. BUT there's a little problem... Shoutcast radio doesn't work very well... Shows me some kind of script error while chanching channel, then Winamp crashes... :l - December 21, 2006 by Jorma Lerssi
lil problem... - when you drag the playlist over the media library, the playlist disappears! only the frame remains... plz fix this. other than that, i use it as my default skin! GREAT WORK! i hope to c more great skins from you.-JP - December 17, 2006 by JP _JingProductions
I was having problems with the library of my Windows Media Player 11 BETA. So I searched a way to rebuild/remove the cache of the library data that WMP uses. All of the solutions pointed to non-existing files, which meant Windows Media Player 11 uses a different folder/system than version 10. I kept hunting for it, and then found this.
Thanks! Very useful. Just one problem. When the library is rebuilt, my music files (mp3 and wma) come back with their correct genre. However, my video files (mostly avi) lose their genre. Is this a problem with the avi format? Which format should I convert to in order to keep the genre? Thanks!
In my opinion, the new Office 2007 user interface is one of the most innovative things to come out of Redmond in years. It's nothing less than the death of the main menu as a keystone GUI metaphor. This is a big deal. Historically, where Office goes, everyone else follows. It's already starting to trickle down: IE7 does not show its main menu by default, and neither does Vista. You have to press Alt to expose the menu. The main menu has been demoted to a sort of configuration panel for advanced users; for everyone else, there's the Ribbon and toolbar buttons.GUIs are characterized by their WIMP characteristics: Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointing device. Office 2007's Ribbon is a compelling argument in favor of abandoning the creaky old main menu GUI metaphor. I'd also argue that Office, in every new version, has further de-emphasized the highly problematic MDI windowing standard. Even without the vagaries of MDI, I spend far more time wrangling windows than I should. That's why I work with maximized windows 99% of the time (albeit across multiple monitors). So I'm inclined to think that windows themselves aren't all that useful as a GUI construct either, either. So, if Office 2007 drops the W and M from WIMP, what are we left with?IP. Icons and Pointing Devices. It's a radical change, right? Perhaps, until you consider the world's most popular GUI environment, the web browser, has no Menus or Windows. It's nothing but Icons and Pointing Devices. And yet people seem to adapt to the web much more readily than traditional WIMP apps. If anything, Office 2007's UI overhaul brings it in line with the rest of world that lives in your web browser.Still, it's impressive that Microsoft was willing to make such a large change to their flagship application. Vista, in comparison, makes almost no changes to the core Windows GUI. Jensen Harris' blog documents exactly how Microsoft arrived here:The Why of the New UI (Part 1)
